Re-opening of the CIP pool co-funded by Excellence Cluster Universe
The Physics Department of the Technische Universität München re-opened the CIP pool in Garching. Its rebuilding, reorganisation and restructuring was co-funded by the Excellence Cluster Universe. The computer pool is open to all students and staff members of the Physics Department, who have there access to the Internet, computing resources, and specialized software. It is located in the basement of Physics 1 in rooms 1151 and 1161. The "CIP" stands for “Computer Investment Program”, a program of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), which was initiated in 1985 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to promote the use of computers in teachings. Meanwhile, the DFG is no longer involved, but the funds come from the State of Bavaria and the university.
