The Munich Institute for Astro- and Particle (MIAPP) was founded in 2012 by the Cluster of Excellence Universe as part of the German Excellence Initiative, and inaugurated in 2014.
Since then, each year multiple four-week long programs are hosted at MIAPP, that feature hot topics in the field of cosmology, astro-, nuclear and particle physics. During the programs scientists from local institutions and from all over the world are gathered in the MIAPP building to exchange knowledge und to push new ideas and projects. Every MIAPP program is conducted by leading scientists in the subject area of the program focus. Far away from daily commitments and routines, in a relaxed atmosphere, well-established insights are critically scrutinized, new ideas are developed and in particular new contacts and collaborations are established or deepened.
Thanks to the commitment of the scientific coordinators, the participants and the MIAPP team the Munich Institute for Astro- and Particle Physics developed into a well-attended visitor center and is gaining in popularity.
Since 2019, MIAPP carries on in the framework of the Excellence Strategy of the German Federal Government and States and is hosted by the Cluster of Excellence ORIGINS and the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
